The Octopus

When the trap landed at the bottom of the sea, the Pacific octopus came out of  his cave to hunt for crabs.  Some crabs scuttled into the trap. The octopus glided in the water then camouflaged into the ground.  Then he pounced into the cage like a lion pouncing.   He actually pounced into the cage so he was trapped too. The fisherman Steve stated to pull the trap up with the octopus in it!    WHOOSH!!! The octopus some how got out! The fisherman was frustrated!

Lion and the giraffe!

As soon as the lion started to chase the long necked giraffe, the giraffe ran as fast as he could.  The giraffe was running because a big pride of lions were trying to kill, and then eat the giraffe.  Even though it was dusty and they ran through lots of water, the giraffe kept on running!  Before very long, another lion got ready to pounce. When the lion did pounce, the giraffe kicked the lion to the ground, dusty and sandy. Then the clever giraffe stared to stand and jump on the poor lion who tried to stand up, but of course he couldn't. Next the giraffe ran away and the lion walked off looking sad because he had been beaten.

Dragons

450px-Aegon_on_Balerion.jpg (450×292)Dragons have sharp teeth. Dragons live in dark and scary caves. Dragons like flying high and baring their fangs. Dragons have big sparkly wings so that they can be seen in the sky. Dragons have babies so that dragons don't become extinct. Dragons blow fire out of their nostrils and mouths to burn things. Dragons have big mouths to kill their prey. Dragons like staying in their caves so if a predator walks past, the dragon can kill the predator and eat it. Dragons need lots of food to eat because they are very big. I would feel scared if I saw a dragon because dragons are scary!!!

Dear Mr Sedcole

Taonga Class

Mangonui School
Mangonui

Monday 28th August 2017
Dear Mr Sedcole,

Please can we have some of your money? If you don't give us money, our scraps will go to the land fill, when we could give it to the worms. We need money because we need to buy things for the worm farm, like a watering can. We need to keep the worm farm damp. A watering can could sprinkle water on the worm farm. We also need 7 buckets with lids, we would put one bucket in each classroom for the scraps. We also need a worm wee collector to collect the worm wee. We added it all up
and we ended up with $140.

Kind Regards

Mia Millichamp.

All About Me

About my family

I live in Taipa. I live with Maki/mum and Simon/dad and my little sister Josie. I have 2 cats, 1 named Oliver and the other named Spike. 4 chickens and one other that I forgot. 9 cows, and 1 lamb.

My favourites are...

- Goody goody gum drop ice cream, especially on a cone.

- 3D art is fun because you can use a yogurt container to make a pretty 3D art.

- Climbing is a favourite,  some people have trees with good grip for climbing.

I don't like...

- Spiders and centipedes because their are scary, they freak me out.

At school I want to learn art because I  am interested in art.

When I grow  up I want to be a teacher so I get lots of money,  it will also be lots of fun.

I have a lovely family because they are building a pool for me and my mum.

I am Mia.

Trillion Trek Vist

Today Trillion Trek came to Mangonui school. They came in funny cars and some cars were crazy. There were fire trucks, police cars.

My favourite thing was seeing the magician. I liked it  when he had some cards and put one down. Then he will squeeze and squeeze and then the cards will get smaller and smaller and then turned inadvisable. He says " hey, pick up the cards, I dropped them by your foot ". I could not believe my eyes.

.

People dressed up. I hugged Elmo and he was extremely soft. I saw the person inside Elmo. She was a girl.

I got a red bag with a new drink bottle, a ruler, a pen, an activity book and lots and lots of lolly. When we walked past a person with lollies they will say " open up your bag and I will give you some lollies". he would say in a friendly way.

The Ladybirds

Ladybirds are amazing little insects.

What is a lady bird?

A ladybird is a small red beetle with black spots. Beetles are part of a large group of animals  called insects. All insects have 6 legs and 3 parts to their body. A ladybird has 2 big eyes and two feelers on its head. It has strong jaws to bite into their food.

Colours and spots.

Ladybirds can be different colours. Some have black spots on red or yellow wings. Other ladybirds have white spots on red wings. The number of spots varies too. Most ladybirds have 7 spots. The smallest number of spots a ladybird is 2- 1 on each wing. Some ladybirds have as many as 22 spots.

Flying around

A ladybird has 2 pairs of wings which it uses to fly.

Skin And Brain Facts

Skin is so so important.

You have two layers of skin. The top layer is called Epidermis. The bottom layer is called Dermis.

The more Melanin you have, the darker skin you will have. If you stand in the sun to long you will get more Melanin, there for you have darker skin.

If your skin is not stretchy, when you grow your skin will get tight. It will be hard to swim, walk and run etc.

There is three main parts of your brain.
The biggest part is the cerebellum. The cerebellum controls our emotion, balance and new thing we learn.
The cerebrum controls our thoughts, and imagination.
The brain stem controls our heart beat.

Dolphins have brains similar in size and proportion to humans, suggesting that they can perform similar functions to the human brain.

Birds brain are mostly concerned with movement. Their behaviour is controlled by instincts - they don't need to be shown how to build  nest.

That is why skin is important.
